The Orient Boutique Hotel

The Orient Boutique Hotel

Description

Behind every myth is at least a grain of truth - a comforting thought for someone in search of James Hilton's evasive Shangri-la. In his acclaimed novel "Lost Horizon" Hilton masterfully describes a distant and secluded hideaway of great beauty and tranquility, a remote paradise on earth, hidden in a peaceful valley surrounded by mountains, where harmony reigns, where the gods walk among the people, and where man and nature embrace. An utopian dream perhaps, or surprisingly close to reality ? In true Oriental style, the Boutique Hotel's architecture reflects the exotic Moorish culture. All suites embody traditional Oriental sumptuousness with intricate wood carvings, smokey fireplaces and wooden balconies with valley or mountain views. Impressive ancient temple pillars and carved antique furniture and posts add enormous character to both the interior and exterior of each suite.

Accommodation

The 11 double suites and 1 single room have been designed by blending the most desirable contemporary, colonial and Moorish décor; from high sloping ceilings, airy verandas and carved doors to ethnic woven textiles. The eclectic plush interiors provide a true sense of place - allowing you to experience the Orient's signature blend of romance, rejuvenation and exotic sensuality in ancient splendour. A much-needed oasis of peace and tranquility.

The hotel interiors are ravishing in colour, textures and imagination, the rich patinas of the cabinet-maker's craft contrasting with the luxuriance of antique furnishings. The objects d'art and original paintings display the owner's passion for this house of character. The hotel has the charm and warmth of a private club having just 12 suites, most of them with a private terrace.

RAJASTHAN SUITE

Home of the Rajputs and Mughals, who lived in northern India in royal splendour for the past 2000 years. You will feel quite at home in this suite warmed by the finest material of ruby red velvet & imprinted patterns of antique bronze. it is distinguished by its own Jharoka, imported from one of the ancient Havali's of northern India. The generously proportioned Rajasthan suite is a sonnet of serenity, with a beautiful view overlooking the valley.

KASHMIR SUITE

The legendary Kashmir, a province tucked away in the foothills of the Himalayas, crossing point of the ancient silk route between China and the West - became famous for their exquisite fabrics, silk soft to the touch.  You will be welcomed by similarly exotic embroidered silk.  Kashmir wools in tones of burnt sienna, mellow greens and ancient bronze.  The Kashmir suite is an ode to elegance with its own "Harem Bed" and private balcony offering space for reflective thought, whilst gazing upon the Palm Court.

Arts at Orient

One on the finest collections of original South African art adorn the walls of our fondouk and guests are encouraged to linger awhile to appreciate South Africa's finest artworks.

A Tienie Prichard sculpture of Salomé stands in the foyer and welcomes guests while at the same time emphasizing the drama of stepping back in time to a period of forgotten elegance, charm and grace. Among contemporary works of art in the collection, are a number of masterpieces. The unique Royal Hunt is not only one of Tienie Pritchard's finest achievements but is surely one of the greatest masterpieces of modern South African sculpture, complementing Adriaan Boshoff's The Day's Catch and Conrad Theys's Kokerbome. The diverse collection of paintings range from landscapes to monumental figure compositions by artists such as Gregoire Boonzaier, Titta Fasciotti, Dino Paravano and Rose-Innes. Within The Orient's public rooms, Errol Boyley's painting of his favorite fishing spot, may be compared with the graciously beautiful classic work of Idyllirium by Aleta Michaletos, specially created for the foyer over a period of nearly two years. Over the past twenty years the owners not only enjoyed befriending the majority of these artists but also setting them free to explore their innermost desires to create that one piece that they themselves will consider to be the pinnacle of their own creative passions. They can recall the purchase of every piece and have a story to tell about every one. Visit us and let the artists speak for themselves ....

Tranquil walks: Enjoy nature at its best early morning or late afternoon by strolling down the walkways and hopefully you'll be greeted by our game roaming the 280 hectars of Conservation Area within the Francolin Conservancy.
Golf: The Orient is a major center for Golf lovers, with half a dozen golf courses within minutes driving time.
Croquet: Croquet was invented shortly after 1066 for entertainment in the Royal Court. The word croquet is taken from the French at the time (the equivalent to Old English - Vieux Francais) meaning conquer, and was also applied to William the Conqueror, as William le Croquet. Croquet is essentially a game recreating the scene at the Battle of Hastings. The balls represent the various divisions within William's army advancing in turn through the ranks of Harold's defenders - the hoops. All the attackers are trying to be the first to put "one in the eye" of Harold by hitting the peg.
You can "put one in the eye" on our professionally laid out Croquet lawn.
Archery: Archery is one of the oldest arts still practiced. Evidence of ancient archery has been found throughout the world. The earliest people known to have used bows and arrows were the ancient Egyptians, who adopted archery at least 5000 years ago for purposes of hunting and warfare. In China, archery dates back to the Shang dynasty (1766-1027 BC). During the ensuing Zhou (Chou) dynasty (1027-256 BC) nobles at court attended sport archery tournaments that were accompanied by music and interspersed with elegant salutations. Come and relive those elegant times on our outdoor target archery field.
Pétanque/Boules: Our guests relax while playing "Boules", or "Pétanque" on one of our two courts. Petanque, one of Europe's most popular outdoor games, is a distant relative of horseshoes, and a first cousin of the Italian 'Bocce'. This game originated in Provence in the early 1900's.
Shopping:

With major shopping centers just minutes from The Orient, and your own personal chauffeur at your beg and call, all that can be offered by Pretoria, Sandton and Sun City is just a wish away.
