Ndebele Traditional Village & Museum

The traditional village and museum provides a unique example of the most striking architecture and traditional arts in Africa. Situated near KwaMhlanga, north of Bronkhorstspruit and approximately an hour’s drive from Johannesburg and Pretoria, the village is an ideal stopover for tourists visiting the game reserves or other attractions in the area. Guided tours are conducted daily and includes handcraft demonstrations, traditional dressing, beadwork, weaving, dancing etc. Crafts can be bought during weekdays.

Willem Prinsloo Agricultural Museum

The Willem Prinsloo Agricultural Museum, a part of South Africa’s cultural heritage, is an informal and living museum, where children can view farm animals and period farming implements. Demonstrations on traditional activities such as the baking of bread, candle making, distilling of mampoer (home made liquor), sheep shearing etc. are given on a regular basis. Other facilities and attractions include: ‘Tant Miertjie se kombuis’ (Kitchen), a delightful traditional restaurant, offering tasty farm style meals and mouth watering home made bread – bookings essential: a lecturing hall, with audio visual equipment and ideal for meetings of up to 80 people; the Schoeman Hall, ideal for large functions; Lapakraal, offering accommodation in 10 chalets (sleeps 4) at excellent rates; a Ndebele hut; horse riding, curio shop and caravan sites. Annual events include an Agricultural Show, Prickly Pear and Mampoer Festivals – there are very popular events, drawing visitors and competitors from all over the country and should not be missed.

Nan Hua Buddhist Temple

It has always been the dream of Venerable Master Hsing Yun, founder and leader of the Fo Kuang organization, to built a Buddhist temple in Africa, and when representatives of the Bronkhorstspruit city council visited Taiwan in 1991 to promote and attract Taiwanese investment to the area, both parties realized that this could be an opportunity to fulfil this dream. Construction of the Nan Hua Temple Complex started in 1993, and thus far over R30 million has been spent on the project. It is believed that the project will be completed by 2002 at a cost of about R200 million. Currently the complex has an office and temple building, a Buddhist College with lecture and accommodation facilities, as well as a guest house.
